Young Satala pursue namesakes legacy

Dreams are like fuel, something that keeps you going throughout your lifetime, planted as seeds in the earliest ages, then kept alive by desires to see those dreams blossom into a life’s purpose and achievements.

There’s a constant anticipation to see that dream fulfilled. A motivation that steers you through challenges along the journey and help to overcome any threats to that dream so that all your efforts to achieve your purpose may be fruitful.

In the rugby rich province of Nadroga there is a 15 year old Cuvu College student with big dreams of rugby representation and a firm grounding on what it takes to reach those goals.

An ordinary village boy from Yadua in Nadroga, Viliame Satala has a desire burning inside of him to be the best rugby player possible.

He is a rising star in his local region, repeatedly delivering man of the match performances in the local Nadroga Kaji club competiton.

He knows this is just the beginning of the journey to realise his dreams, that there are sacrifices and hurdles and potentially even hardship to go through if he wants to be the best and he is ready for that challenge.

“I want to represent my country at the world stage and I also want to represent my province in the Skipper cup, this is what I dream of and this is what I’ll achieve if I believe in it and work hard.”

Growing up Satala has always been fascinated by his namesake and uncle the legendary Viliame Satala. Every day after school Satala would arrive home, complete his chores, and set out to train with his friends at the beach.

“From a young kid I always wanted to be like my namesake (Viliame Satala) and that’s something that keeps me going, I know its won’t be an easy road but I’m willing to take this journey and be the best rugby player when my time comes.”

Like many other Fijian kids, Satala has his dreams set on wearing the Flying Fijian jersey, with proud provincial loyalty, he is hoping for selection into the Nadroga academy; then to travel the pathway to representing Nadroga in Skipper Cup.

“if I work hard every day, I know I will reach my goal, not only me but all other kids in Fiji if you want to be something in life then it’s all up to you to make it happen or watch it fade away.”
