Young Naivaluwaqa ready to face Fijian Warriors in the final WPRC clash tomorrow
Setareki Naivaluwaqa is a famous name when it’s comes to rugby in the country.
The former Flying Fijians now based in Japan has contributed a lot to Fijian rugby, not only representing the national in the 15’s code but also in the 7s winning the prestigious Hong Kong title in 1998.
Continuing his legacy now is his son and namesake Setareki Naivaluwaqa Junior, who plays for the Junior Japan in the World Rugby Pacific Championship.
The 19-year-old who is originally from Kavala Bay, Kadavu said it was tough adapting the Japanese style of play at the beginning.
Naivaluwaqa added “It was really difficult for me specially the language because I couldn’t speak Japanese.
“I slowly learned and adjusted myself into their system.
“I’m enjoying playing with them and we have a great bond” he said.
The Tenri University Rugby Club player will feature at locks for the Junior Japan in their final clash against Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors.
“We have full trust in each other and I know these players will give their best against the home side.
“It is going to be a hard game but we are going for a win against the Fijian Warriors” said Naivaluwaqa.
His father and other family members were cheering up from the grandstand when Junior Japan thumped Samoa A on Tuesday.
He hopes more supporters will turn up tomorrow when they face the mighty Fijian Warriors.
“My family members were hear to watch and support our team last week and there are more people coming tomorrow to cheer for us” said Naivaluwaqa.
The Junior Japan faces Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors at 3.30pm tomorrow. In a match earlier Samoa A meets Tonga A at 1pm while in the final match of the day Fijian Latui battles it out against China Lions at 6.15pm. All matches will be played at ANZ Stadium.
Tickets available at the gate, $10 for grandstand, $5 adult embankment, $2 child embankment.
