World Rugby Level 2 women’s coaching course upskill local coaches

About 10 local women coaches around the Country were part of World Rugby level 2 coaching course hosted by Fiji Rugby Union Development Unit on Saturday.

This is the first time for a women’s specific coaching session to be held in the country as these coaches open share their knowledge, skills and experience during the course.

Women’s coaching is not an extensive role locally in terms of participation in this platform so Fiji Rugby Union Development Unit is working to rise the capacity of women’s coaching.

As we’re going through a period of change in women’s rugby all across the globe, Fiji Rugby Union Development is taking a step to increase the percentage of participation level in women’s coaching at this stage.

The sudden influx of women and girls taking up rugby as a sport of priority sees the increase in female players around the country but not enough female coaches and officials.

FRU Development Manager Koli Sewabu explained that there is very low capacity in terms of women’s coaching locally, so Part of this initiative is to equip our coaches to level 3 and probably get them accredited so they can become influential in their own provinces.

“10 Women coaches from around Fiji are gearing themselves to the prime competition of Fiji Rugby in the Vanua and Skipper Cup competitions with World Rugby Level 2 Coaching.”

“last year saw a high number of males in the coaching courses so this is a different way of trying to do things this year.”

“This course will equip these ladies and up skill them in growing to become better coaches prior to the start of this seasons provincial competition.”

This coaching clinic is part of Fiji Rugby strategic plan in line with World Rugby’s strategic plan to increase women’s participation not only from a playing perspective but also from coaching and official’s perspective.
