Vodafone Fiji U20 Hospital Visit
The Vodafone Fiji U20 team visited the Children’s Ward at the CWM Hospital last week as part of their community outreach program.
The children were able to meet the players, get autographs and also take pictures with them.
One patient in particular got the surprise of his life when the team donated the recommended protein powder that he needed in order to recover quickly.
13 year old Lui Sikoa has been admitted at the Children’s Ward since the 12th of November.
Whilst playing in the National Kaji competition earlier this year, he sustained a dislocated shoulder but the St John’s Medics were able to put it back into place. However, he sustained the same injury while playing a friendly game of rugby at St Joseph the Worker primary school which he currently attends.
Apart from the dislocated shoulder, three of his friends fell on top of him which caused some complications to his hip.
Sikoa hid the injury from his parents Torika and Anare Sikoa, but had to tell them a few days later when he could not bear the pain.
He was then admitted at the Wainibokasi Hospital and later transferred to the CWM Hospital where he has been ever since.
His mum, Torika says that on the morning of the Vodafone Fiji U20 visit she was advised by the doctors that during some medical tests they found out that Lui lacked in protein and recommended that he needed to take the Mana Whey Protein Powder in small doses to replenish the protein in his body.
“I was advised by the hospital that it would cost $30, but when I checked at the supermarket, the price was $70. As I did not have enough money with me, I decided to call my brothers to ask if they could assist me. I was still dialing the number, when I received a phone call from the Vodafone Fiji U20 Manager, Ame Baleitamavua saying that they were beside my son’s bed and that they would purchase the Protein Powder and donate it to my son.”
“I have always been steadfast in my prayers and I believe that this was a miracle. I was overwhelmed with emotions and thanked God for his blessings.”
“The Vodafone Fiji U20 team in assisting my son is really a gift from heaven. I cannot thank them enough for what they did for Lui. My husband and I will be forever grateful to them and will continue to pray for each and every one of them.
“After drinking the protein, Lui is slowly recovering and has managed to get up and walk around for a few minutes and the doctors say that he is progressing well.”
Torika said that as the team takes the field tomorrow against the Tongans, their family will be cheering for them from his bed side at the CWM Hospital.
