Goneva was first spotted by the legend Waisale Serevi while playing for Nadi in the Digicel Cup competition and he was included in the 2007-08 IRB Sevens World Series. He began his journey for the Flying Fijians in 2007 when Fiji takes on Samoa in the PNC, from then till now he is the highest try scorer in the history of Flying Fijians with 22 total tries. In May 2012, he signed a contract to join Aviva Premiership team Leicester Tigers. Goneva signed a contract with Newcastle Falcons in March 2016 and played in the AVIVA competition in the 2016-18 season before moving again to join Harlequins on July 2019 for the 2019/2020 season.
