Clash of the titans for Women’s final
2020 Women’s skipper Cup final will be a battle of the top 2 teams in the Skipper Cup points table Lautoka and Naitasiri.
Lautoka tops the Women’s points table after 14 rounds with 12 wins and 2 defeats, while Naitasiri sits at second place with 11 wins, 1 draw, and 2 loss.
Naitasiri knows that Lautoka team consists of quality players and the fact that they execute a game of fast flowing rugby, and the Highlanders are focusing their preparation on countering the swift Lautoka attack.
Lautoka beat Naitasiri the last time the two teams met in round 8, but Naitasiri captain Sereima Leweniqila emphasized that they’re determined heading into this final.
“Something that’s also keeping us going is our determination, coming into the semifinals we were determined that we’ll take the win, that determination was a pushing factor in our performance and that same determination will be taking us into the final,” said Leweniqila.
She added that another crucial factor for the team is “having to play for each other going into this final.”
“The win over Suva in the semi-finals was a mind game for us, and I keep on encouraging the girls that we have to play for each other, and that got us the win,” said Leweniqila.
“Going into this final, it’ll be very important that we play for each other play for our fans and the vanua of Naitasiri,” she added.
The Highlanders are aiming to make the Vanua of Naitasiri proud and attest how women’s team can also bring rugby glory to the Vanua.
“Our motive is to make our fans and the Vanua proud and to bring the women’s title to Naitasiri,” she added.
“Lautoka is a tough team, and they’re also a quality team, they top the Skipper Cup points table and they beat us earlier in the rounds,” she said.
“We’re expecting a hard battle and we won’t take them lightly,” she added.
Naitasiri takes on Lautoka at 2 pm this Saturday at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
