Top-notch performance displayed on day one of the Mini International 7s

Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s was one of the impressive teams on day one of the Fun Flavour Fiji Rugby Mini International 7s tournament as they managed to defeat the Black Ferns 7s side twice at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

The first game didn’t go as expected for the Saiasi Fuli-coached side as they narrowly lost to the Olympic gold medalists 14-12 in the first game early this morning.

Our girls then bounced back in style as they managed to secure two consecutive wins over the visitors later at home.

Coach Saiasi Fuli said “We were unfortunate in the first game as we did not use the opportunities we had in the first game.

We went back and had a good review of the game and counted on the mistakes we made and corrected it the second time around.”
He added “It was good playing against a champion team, they gave us a good time and also at the same time we had an opportunity to learn from them.

We will now get the much-needed rest, refocus and come prepared for another three rounds of matches tomorrow.

Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s captain Rusila Nagasau said “I want to thank the girls for the courageous performance against New Zealand.
We know that playing our sister from New Zealand will always be tough and therefore all our girls needed to give their utmost best in order to win matches today.

We played as a team and managed to count on when there was an opportunity for us to score.

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Coach Be Gollings said “I’m pleased with the performance of both the teams especially the last two matches but its more around what we trying to do to and implement in the team ahead of the World Rugby Sevens Series.”
