Telecom Fijiana wins Bowl final in Brazil

The Telecom Fijiana team started off their campaign in at the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Brazil with a win over China 33 – 7.  But their celebration was short lived as hosts Brazil and Australia, defeated them, 26 – 14 and 38 – 7 respectively.

After a week of grey skies and thunderstorms, the sun shone on the São Paulo suburbs on Saturday with samba bands joining the fans in Arena Barueri.

The fast, dry pitch suited the likes of New Zealand, Australia, Canada and France, who came into the second round of the series in the top four in the standings

All teams will be hoping to cement their places there by the time Amsterdam comes around in May, with Olympic qualification on the line for the top four sides at the end of the season.

The Iliesa Tanivula coached side won the Bowl Final edging Spain 17-12. Preparations now continue for the next leg of the Women’s 7s Series in Atlanta, USA.
