Tailevu crowned womens Skipper Cup champions
Tailevu rugby team was crowned the champion in the women’s Skipper final after thumping Nadroga 43-10 at ANZ Stadium.
Fly-half Kasanita Tuvou, Susana Railumu, Setaita Railumu and Alowesi Nakoci scored tries for Tailevu as they rested 24-5 at half time.
Tailevu got stronger in the second spell running in three more tries through Tokasa Naleca, Vueti Ruci and replacement Sonia Tiritabua.
The Stallions on the other hand only managed to cross the line twice, tries from Wainikiti Gonevulavula and Ivamere Nabura.
Tailevu captain Prisila Siata said it feels great to win the prestigious title for the first time.
“I would like to thank the lord for being the source of strength of this team. It’s an honour for the Tailevu womens team to represent the vanua in the final for the first time and to win.”
She added “I think our level of fitness and the team work proved the difference against Nadroga in the final.”
Siata thanked fans who came out in numbers to support the team against one of the best outfits from the West.
“We would like to dedicate this win to all the supporters, the management and all our families plus friends at home.”
Tailevu worked away with a trophy and $5,000 while runner up Nadroga received $2,000.
