Sydney MOB’s Fundraise for Road to Gold Campaign
Two Vodafone Fiji 7s jerseys signed by the Vodafone Fiji 7s extended squad including coach Ben Ryan were presented at the Sydney Marist Old Boys Fundraising function which coincided with the Sydney 7s last weekend.
The fundraising is an annual event by the Sydney MOB’s whereby they fundraise to assist the Marist education community and other communities in Fiji. However, this year the Sydney by auctioning one of the signed Vodafone Fiji 7s jerseys.
Marist Rugby Club President and Road to Gold Co-Chair, Lawrence Tikaram was in Sydney and attended the function, to introduce the Road to Gold campaign and also present the jersey to the winning bidder of the Road to Gold campaign.
Mr. Richard Gock of Sydney won the bid of AUD$1,750 and was presented the framed signed jersey by Tikaram.
Sydney based MOB Epeli Naivalu said that the Sydney MOB look forward to building a strong relationship with FRU again next year when Sydney hosts what is quickly becoming a 7s carnival to rival the Hong Kong 7s.
“It was indeed good to see that Fiji by far had the most support around the stadium to the extent that some media outlets were even calling it the Suva 7s. We cannot wait for next year to again experience the Sydney 7s extravaganza like no other” Naivalu said.
“In parting, we, the Sydney MOB, extend our most sincere best wishes to the team and management for the rest of this year’s 7s journey that hopefully will turn to gold in Rio, come August.’’
Meanwhile, the second jersey was a prize for the Sydney MOB Raffle, proceeds of which will go toward the Marist Education Community and other communities.
