Suva Rugby works towards COVID-19 vaccination
Fiji Rugby Skipper Cup 2020 champions, the Suva rugby team leads by example in completing their second jab for COVID 19 vaccine as they look forward the continuation of the competition.
Suva team manager Nemani Tuifagalele said their approach towards the second jab policy remains their primary goal as they want to complete the vaccination as soon as possible.
“Presently we are on our way to achieving full vaccination for all our players and Suva stands at 75% and we the rest should get their 2nd jabs by the 1st week of October” he said.
We are also ensuring that the players continue to train so that we are ready to regroup if the season resumes later next month.
“We have been providing daily training schedule to all our players over the last 3 weeks and we are hoping to get a feedback from MOH & FRU to allow us to train within our bubble (30 to gather outside) – through training together then we can only gauge their fitness,” said Tuifagalele.
The capital side is on the verge of exposing more player from their development into the Skipper competition as the Fijian Drua pathway paints an opportunity for players to focus on.
“Yes but on the other hand we are glad to see the rugby pathway being realized for some of them – it pushes Suva further to maximize their development program in line with its core mission and values as a strong and better rugby Union producing quality rugby players – we trust our process to train and develop players and like all other 7 Unions, we are keen to return to play and defend the Skipper Cup for the 4th season,” he said.
The return to play policy will now focus on the mental and physical fitness of players.
“The outbreak period has left everyone guessing whether we will arrive at this stage seeing the number of infected people reduced dramatically- moreover it has affected everyone including rugby players and their families – rehabilitation of players is what we intend to introduce to get their minds up before returning to play – players have to be fit in all facets of their lives & training their minds to adjust to situations like this is paramount” said Tuifagalele.
