Suva bags nine tries against Yasawa in ANZ Marama Championship
Suva displayed a top-class performance thumping Yasawa 55-7 in the second round of the ANZ Marama Championship at Prince Charles Park in Nadi today.
The side started the game on a high note and mounted pressure which created space for them to score tries.
The capital city side ran in nine tries to one as they sealed the match in style.
Vitalini Mirini scored three tries for Suva, two tries in the first half and one in the second spell. She opened the score in the 4th minute for the visitors. Suva led 26-nil at the breather with two tries coming in from Mirini and one each from Atelini Kaloumaina and Makereta Tunidau.
Suva continued with the momentum and pilled on points in the last 40. Mirini, Paulini Korowaqa, Naomi Rokowati and Mereseini Waqatoki got their names on the scoresheet as they bagged in an important bonus point win today.
Suva Coach Meli Tuifagalele was impressed with the performance of his side.
“The girls have been putting in the hard yards throughout the week. We talked about the first game against Nadroga and worked on our weak areas during the training which I think paid off today.
I give credit to the girls for properly executing the game plan ” said Tuifagalele.
In the Under-19 match held earlier, Suva beat Yasawa 12-10.
Meanwhile, in the ANZ Marama Championship matches played at Ratu Cakobau Park Ground 2 in Nausori, Tailevu Under-19 beat Lautoka 17-7 while the Tailevu senior team created an upset beating Lautoka 22-10.
