Stallions improves fitness through Sevens Series

Axellerate Stallions rugby 7s team maintains consistency in their development program as they progressed to the quarterfinals of the Super Sevens Series in Savusavu.

Stallions 7s team was formed as an off-season program for 15s players to fit in and partake in local events and gauge their fitness level before the Fiji Rugby Provincial tournament kicks-off on April 10.

Team captain Samu Laqai said they are following a program that will set their fitness on par in the next few months.

“The Series has really helped us improve our fitness and that could be said because we started off the Series winning the Shield in the first leg and now we have reached the cup quarterfinals,” said Laqai.

“These shows that we are improving our fitness, our sevens skills and our preparation towards the provincial tournaments.

The Stallions have a formidable side that looks promising in winning many more future tournaments if they continue to build and develop their boys in 7s rugby.

“We have variety of players from the ages of 20-25 in the team and are new to the Nadroga program but are quickly gaining knowledge and experience in sevens,” Laqai added.

“If we continue to maintain these boys and participate in other local tournaments, I am confident the Stallions will be one of the best 7s teams in the Series and in the country.

The Stallions won two of their pool games and drew one last weekend but lost to the Wardens 24-14 in the cup quarterfinal.

They are in the eleventh place after the third leg last weekend with 18 points.
