Stage Set for Skipper Cup Semi Finals
After fourteen explosive rounds of Skipper Cup competition, the semifinal draws and venues have been confirmed ahead of this weekend’s Skipper Cup semifinals.
The semifinal draw format looks at the top four teams, in which team in first position takes on the team in fourth place while team in second place plays team in third position.
This season, Skipper Cup competition was played on a round robin basis within each pool, the round robin consisted of 14 rounds with each team having 7 home games and 7 away games.
For the main division, Suva(1st) will play Namosi (4) while Naitasiri (2nd) takes on Nadroga (3rd). As for the womens division, Naitasiri (1st) will take on Suva (4) while Tailevu (2nd) plays Lautoka (3rd), and for Under 19 Nadroga (1st) takes on Suva (4) while Nadi (2nd) takes on Namosi (3rd).
All semifinal matches will be held at the home ground of the top 2 teams (Suva and Naitasiri) in the main division Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori and ANZ Stadium, Suva.
Fiji Rugby Operations Manager Sale Sorovaki said that the season ran as planned and despite the unprecedented turmoil of Covid-19, 2020 Skipper Cup competition is a success and will finish off on a high note.
“Though it has been a very long and challenging season, after delaying and re-scheduling our competition beginning of the year, we’ve managed to complete our fourteen weeks of exciting rugby, and everything has been going as planned and we’ll continue with the finals before closing off this season on a high note,” Sorovaki said.
Sorovaki added that Skipper fans should expect an exciting and thrilling match-up ahead of these semifinals for all division.
“Definitely all games will be a thriller as all qualifying teams are the best teams in Fiji’s domestic competition right now, so we should expect some exciting rugby this weekend,” Sorovaki said.
