SportsWorld Fijian Under 20: Asi Tuilagi Set for Debut Against Hurricanes

Excitement is building as 17-year-old Asi Tuilagi, the youngest member of the SportsWorld Fijian Under 20 team, prepares to make his debut in national colours. The Marist Brothers High School student has been named at first five-eighth for tomorrow’s clash against the Under 20 Hurricanes at Owen Delany Park in Taupō.
Tuilagi, who began his rugby journey representing the Suva U9 team at the Kaji Raka competition, has caught the eye of Head Coach Senirusi Seruvakula with his exceptional talent and dedication. Seruvakula expressed his enthusiasm about Tuilagi’s inclusion, stating, “It’s very exciting to see how he will perform and operate and to lead the backline.”
The Fijian Under 20 squad has been carefully selected based on performance both on and off the field, following a rigorous team training program that began in December. Seruvakula emphasized the importance of testing young players in high-pressure environments, saying, “We need all these young players to come into this program and test them at the toughest competition to gauge if they are ready for the next level of the game.”
The team for tomorrow’s match features a mix of talent, with most players coming from the Vodafone Deans competition. Notably, several squad members are still attending secondary school this year, highlighting the youthful energy and potential within the group.
As the team gears up for their showdown with the Hurricanes, Seruvakula has called on Fijian families and fans to rally behind the young squad. “We need their support as we take on this challenge,” he said.
All eyes will be on Asi Tuilagi as he steps onto the field in Taupō, ready to showcase his skills and make his mark on the international stage. Don’t miss the action as the Fijian Under 20 team takes on the Hurricanes at 11:05am NZT tomorrow.
