Skipper Provincial Cup Match Report: Namosi V Tailevu
It was a see-saw battle between Nasmosi and Tailevu at Nakelo District School Ground in the round one of the Skipper Provincial Cup.
Tailevu’s Viliame Kanatabua managed to get the first try for the host as he intercepted an open play from Namosi and ran straight for the try line putting them up on the scoreboard.
10 minutes later, Namosi’s found the rhythm with Seru Cakobau going under the post for their first try. Cakobau was then shown a yellow card in the 20th minute for tip tackling Tailevu’s flanker.
Tailevu took the advantage and took a 10-7 lead.
Namosi’s swift play and fast hands provided Meli Nakarawa a gap to slip through and score their second try giving them a 12-10 lead after first 40 minutes.
Intensity continued to build up as Tailevu encountered the strong Namosi attack and at the same time executed a few structured play.
In the 62th minute Namosi flanker Eparama scored the winning as Namsoi sealed the match 19 -13.
Tailevu Manager Epeli Sovalevu explained that Tailevu missed a few opportunities that would have helped them get the win.
Sovalevu said that they’ll go back and brush up all weakness before taking on Northland next week.
“Unlike last year, we opened our Skipper game according to our game plan.
“We came into this game with a strategy and we followed through it, we just need to look at our weakness, brush it up and come back next week as a better prepared side,” said Sovalevu.
