Skipper Cup Round 3 Match Report
The Nadi rugby team maintained their unbeaten campaign in the third round of the Skipper Cup competition, after they edged Nadroga at Lawaqa Park 16-15 in a last minute try to win the match.
The Jetsetters led the Stallions 6-5, in the halftime break with two successful penalty kicks and Nadroga scored an unconverted try from winger Sevuloni Lutu.
In the second spell Nadi scored another try four minutes into the game, from fullback Semesa Muaidonu to extend their lead to 11-5, however Nadroga flanker Jiuta Biau dived on the far corner of the grandstand and successful conversion from fullback Jack Volavola to take the lead to 12-11 and again in the 64th minute, Volavola dotted another penalty to add another three points, as they led Nadi 15-11.
Nadroga maintained composure but Nadi never lost hope and kept fighting back even when Nadroga was in control of the game and that led to a last minute try from Nadi winger Solomoni Tavai to win the match for his side 16-15.
Meanwhile at Naluwai ground, Naitaisiri was too strong for Suva as they defended the Inkk Farebrother trophy 26-10 to defend the holy grail of Fiji Rugby three weeks consecutively. Naitasiri will now take a break from defending the title next weekend as Tailevu hosts them at Ratu Cakobau Park.
Naitasiri led Suva in the first half 13-0.
At Burebasaga ground, Tailevu defeated their neighbors Rewa, 25-18 to record their second win in the competition. At Gatward Park, Namosi beat Northland 22-14 to record their second win after three rounds.
In the Under 19 grade, Rewa edged Tailevu 12-10, Suva beat Naitasiri 15-10, Namosi 15-8 Northland and Nadi 26-13 Nadroga.
In the fourth round Namosi hosts Nadi, Suva takes on Northland, Rewa hosts Nadroga and Tailevu hosts Naitasiri.
