Skipper Cup defending champions ready for the new season

After a successful 2020 season, Suva Rugby is anticipating a tough 2021 Skipper Provincial Cup season and they’re ready for the challenge ahead.

Suva will be missing a few key players for this season due to work commitments and other factors, but this won’t deter the capital side from setting their sights on another successful 2021 run.

With an injection of young prospects into the Suva squad last year, and mixing with experienced players, it complemented the team’s performance, looking at their swift and explosive play on the field.

Suva Manager Nemani Tuifagalele said that their development programmes from the past years are now taking their toll as young prospect are now filling in for the big roles.

“The absence of a few key players this season will provide an opportunity for our upcoming players to fill in their shoes,” said Tuifagalele.

“I believe that our 4-year development plan is now taking its toll as most of our young players are now fully developed,” said Tuifagalele.

Suva played Nadi last two weeks on a warm-up match at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

Tuifagalele said that they filled in some of their development players in this match to hone them up leading up to their Skipper Cup opener.

“Our warmup match was to test our players on their gameplay, our aim was for them to perfect their strategy, identify their weakness area so we can brush it up leading up to our opener against Nadroga,” said Tuifagalele.

He added that they’ll be heading to their opener prepared to counter the onslaught from the Stallions.

“Our main aim will be getting the little things right, we’re ready for Nadroga to bring the game to us and this will be an exciting game, so I’m urging all our fans out there not to miss it out,” added Tuifagalele.
