Sipper Cup Match Report: Suva v Lautoka Round 13
It was a tough clash at the ANZ Stadium, Suva between Lautoka and Suva, which ended in a narrow score margin 7 – 5.
This round 12 match was a crucial one for Lautoka, in terms of accumulating points to avoid relegation.
The Maroons fielded a strong and experienced side giving Suva a hard-fought battle.
Suva dominated the scrum throughout the game and, despite their fast attack, Lautoka was very effective with their territorial play.
Both sides were well structured with their gameplay and the defensive line was intact as well from both teams throughout the game.
Suva crossed the try-line first, with a big scrum from the capital side followed by a powering run from captain John Stewart on the 35th minutes to put Suva on the scoreboard 7 – 0.
The game was intense as both sides struggle to cross the try line, and Lautoka missed out on opportunities to put points on the board from the few penalties conceded by Suva, the Maroons decided to put it into touch but fell short of the try line in all attempt to cross over.
80 minutes up and Lautoka manage to kept the ball alive, from the halfway line, the Maroons manage to drive their way forward up to Suva’s 22.
The continuos effort from Lautoka forwards, with their pick and drive got them crossing the try line on the 81st minutes, but fell short with the conversion from Luveniyali to level the score with the capital side thus giving Suva the narrow win 7 – 5.
