Seruvakula happy with the talents in the North
Fijiana Head Coach Senirusi Seruvakula was impressed with the talents showcased during the Northern 10’s festival at Subrail Park in Labasa on Monday.
Seruvakula and his coaching panel selected two teams which will take part in the National Regional Finals on the 21st of this month.
“It was really worth coming down here and be part of the Northern 10’s competition” he said.
Seruvakula added “I was surprise to see a lot of talented players out here.
We have managed to scout some of the players playing at a certain position we are really looking into.”
He said the whole day job wasn’t easy as they had to watch all the games and pick a team alongside Macuata which will feature in the national finals.
Seruvakula said “It was really hard but with my coaching panel here we managed to decide that the number one team will be represented by Macuata because they are the Vodafone Vanua Champions and the second team will be represented by various players that took part today.”
Seruvakula said they will travel down to Churchill Park on Friday where he will witness Region 2 and 5 battling before selecting more teams for the National Finals.
He said “The Macuata teams will be very strong coming into the National Regional tournament because they are very fast and fit.”
“They just need to understand their game pattern and improve on their skill level” said Seruvakula.
Seruvakula was also impressed with the Taveuni teams which had young second school girl’s part of it.
He said “They brought a lot of fire with them.
There are some girls whom we have selected for example their lock who played very well and that’s one position which Fijiana lacks currently.”
He said those who will be selected to join the Fijiana extended squad after the National Finals we have enough time to get into shape and become a professional player.
“We have got nearly one year to go and the talent we got here in Fiji is amazing.
We also have received interest from overseas players who are playing in Super Rugby in Australia and in ITM Cup in New Zealand and they keen to play for Fijiana” said Seruvakula.
