Rugby giants hungry for a win in the first round of Skipper Provincial Cup
The Nadroga rugby team will run into the ANZ Stadium tomorrow with one aim and that is to lift their standard from last year’s performance against the three-time Skipper Provincial Cup champions Suva rugby team.
The Stallions had a disappointing season last year with an empty trophy cabinet losing the Farebrother to Namosi in the second challenge and then in the Skipper cup semifinal against Naitasiri.
However, team manager Semi Cabenalotu said they have learnt their lessons and will come back stronger this season.
“We lacked in fitness last year and that was our major downfall,” he said.
“We were not 100% physically and mentally fit and it caused us the season bowing out in the semifinal but it is good to learn from your mistakes.
“We really learnt a lot from our mistakes last year and we are hoping to make a comeback this year especially against the champions Suva in the first round.
Meanwhile, former Nadroga rugby team halfback Sirilo Lala said the players need to step up and regain the trust and the support of the Vanua this season.
“The boys need to prove to all their supporters that they are the champ and bring back the Nadroga team that used to rule rugby in Fiji,” said Lala.
“I believe we will rise and give Suva a good game of rugby on Saturday.”
Nadroga will face Suva at the ANZ Stadium at 3pm tomorrow.
