Rewa crowned Vanua Champions

Rewa rugby team has been crowned the champions of the 2020 Vodafone Vanua Championship after beating Northland 21-20 in a mouth-watering final at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Three minutes into the game and Northland lock Peniasi Wakawaka scored the first try of the game to give his side an early lead.

In the 8th minute Rewa levelled it 7 all with the help of Taito Rauluni’s try.

Rewa had a few chances to extend the lead but they failed to slot the ball in between the sticks after being awarded a few penalties.

Northland’s Saint Talei and former Fijian 7s rep Emosi Mulevoro were perfect off the tee’s getting three points each as Northland led 13-7 at the break.

The game turned out more physical and interesting in the second spell as Northland extended the lead.

Down 20-14, Rewa knew only a try could help them escape the loss and they worked hard towards it.

Replacement Peniseini Kotoisuva was the hero getting the much needed try which Apenisa Deve converted for extra two points.

Rewa Captain Iakobo Bose said “I knew my players had the guts to fight until the last whistle.”
“When I was substituted, I told the players we can do it and just keep trying hard, the god will reward us in the end” he said.

He thanked the vocal Rewa supporters who came out in numbers to help them win.
