Pacific Combine impress selectors.

World Rugby officials who are in the country to assess the Pacific Combine are impressed with the level of engagement shown by the players from the three Pacific Nations Samoa, Tonga and Fiji.

Former NSW Waratahs coach Chris Hickey who’s guiding the Combine group emphasized that the Pacific boys really show their commitment towards the program.

“We’re really impressed with the engagement of players, not only in the field sessions but in the gym and also with their nutrition and mental skills. They’re also hungry to learn more.”

Hickey explained that most of the Swire Shipping Fiji Warriors players caught their attention during the World Rugby Pacific Cup.

“We’re lucky to have players like Frank Lomani, Eroni Mawi, Luke Tagi and John Dyer who are leaders in their group.”

After a week together, the Combine team will receive an exit interview and dossier outlining their testing results plus personal feedback and recommendations of each coach who had input on the camp.

“Their files will be posted online on the World Rugby web portal, so any coach can go online and check on these players.”

Hickey emphasized that the next part of the work is talking to different professional clubs and help the players get an overseas contract.

“We will work it out and see if we can place these players in the right possible environment.”

The Pacific Combine’s key objective is to scout local talented players from WRPC and provide an open market for them in the international rugby arena considering the best environment for these players.
