Northland ready for the challenge
The Northland rugby team aims for consistency throughout this rugby season as the Skipper Provincial Cup kicks-off tomorrow across the country.
After being relegated two years ago and making a comeback last year, the Northland team officials have mapped out a strategy plan for the players to carry out this year.
Team administrator Livai Driu said they want to settle first before they make a move gunning for the Skipper and the Farebrother trophy.
“Our mission is to maintain our status and remain in the Skipper Provincial Cup competition,” said Driu.
“We doubled our preparation because we know we will be facing some of the tough teams in the competition.
Northland rugby team is coached by former Fiji 7s team captain Isake Katonibau and veteran players such as Olympic gold medalist Apisai Domolailai, former Fiji 7s rep, Emosi Mulevoro and Police front rower Inoke Ravuiwasa.
“We have a mixture of some senior players and young reps featuring for Northland this season and we will work on building depth in the squad,” said Driu.
“Domolailai, Mulevoro and Ravuiwasa will lead the young brigade into battle against a strong and experienced Naitasiri pack.
“However our main goal is to remain in the Skipper competition and do our best this year.”
Northland will host Naitasiri at Gatward Park in Korovou tomorrow at 3pm.
