No Freeze just Focus in Vegas.

The chilly 18C conditions in Las Vegas are causing no barrier to our Fiji Airways Fijian 7s preparations since arriving into the USA last week Friday.

Gareth Baber says whilst there was a slight shock to the system for the boys, they’ve switched into business mode quickly ahead of the next two series tournaments.

“At training on Sunday the boys were breathing in very cold air which they found a bit tough and that’s all part of the acclimatization in getting to understand the environment that we’re going to be working in,” said Baber.

Baber explained that there hasn’t been no complain from the boys regarding the swift change in weather they facing and also emphasized that it can be a distraction if they let it be, “we’ve talked a lot about not letting that happen to us and ensuring that we’re focus on what our job is.”

Arriving into Las Vegas two days ahead of schedule the team have worked through what Baber calls a “graduated progression into their training”.

“We’re not risking injury on that Friday or Saturday, so we just went through some light work and going in to Sunday we appled a bit more pressure on the boys physically with a hard tough session,” said Baber.

Coach was impressed with his team’s execution during training as he said that much of strategy provided was being followed thoroughly.

“We feel that we’re in a good position having gone through some elements of our game that we want to put out on the weekend.”

Fiji knows nothing short of their best will be required this weekend as the team move to improve their third place position on the Series ladder, focussing on one game at a time.

“I don’t think in the level of competition, that we can really look at anything else than putting what we need in each game to get each game done.”

The boys scrimmaged against France earlier today, with Coach Baber taking as much time as possible to name his final 13 for the weekend.

The team will go through their last training session on Thursday morning in which Baber will also get to choose the starting lineup.
