Nasoko apologises to the Fiji public ahead of USA Sevens.

On the eve of the departure of the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Team to Las Vagas Captain Kalione Nasoko, addressed the Fijian public today to apologize for his recent misdemeanor in failing a roadside breath test, acknowledging the disappointment he has caused to the people he proudly represents.

“I would like to humbly apologize to the people of Fiji, to the Fiji Rugby Union, to our sponsors, my team mates and family for letting you down.

To represent Fiji as a member of the Fijian 7s is an honor and privilege and one that I cherish and value greatly.

I made a mistake in making the assumption that I was fully recovered when I decided to drive my vehicle that morning, and I acknowledge that error of judgement and am regretful for the decision I made.

This has been a learning experience for me and it is my hope that my experience will be a learning for any person in this situation, to ensure that you are 100% clear before you pick up your keys to drive and not assume.”

The Fijian Captain is in his first year leading the national 7s team and was determined to show respect to the people and supporters of the jersey by acknowledging his remorse.

“I never intended to cause damage or harm to the reputation or legacy of the White Jersey, I am truly sorry for these events and I hope to earn back the trust of you all through my future actions and behaviours.” I seek forgiveness from all our supporters in Fiji and globally and sincerely hope for your understanding and continued support and prayers.

Nasoko will travel with the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s to the USA for the upcoming Las Vegas and Canada 7s after being granted bail from the courts.

Meanwhile the CEO FRU and Coach Gareth Baber, were thankful that Nasoko had been upfront and took accountabilities of his actions. He had assumed that he had rested well the previous night and was clear prior to making the decision to drive his vehicle but he was wrong and has been man enough to admit his mistake and accept responsibility and face the consequence which he has done.

Head Coach Gareth Baber and CEO FRU who were also with Nasoko highlighted that they valued that Nasoko was upfront in admitting to his mistake and having the courage to face the consequence and more importantly in his desire to publically apologize to his supporters before they departed for the Las Vagas 7s.

“Nasoko has led the Team by example and has lead from the front. 

He had initially offered his apology to FRU and to the Management and the rest of the Team who have vouched to continue to support him as Captain and do their best in the next two legs” said O’Connor.
