Naimasi ready to lead Fijiana in Hong Kong 7s
Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s utility back, Ana Naimasi continues to strive high in her rugby career as she prepares to lead the national team for the very first time in a World Rugby Sevens Series leg.
Naimasi is currently the leading try scorer for the Fijiana 7s with 66 tries and now has been given the responsibility to take charge of the pack as they eye for a direct Olympic Games qualification.
Naimasi said it’s always an honor to captain the Fijiana 7s side which is not an easy task but she is ready to take up the challenge.
“I know it won’t be an easy task but with the assistance of the experienced players in the team, I’m confident of carrying out my job with faith and passion.
Head Coach Saiasi Fuli said it’s a very special moment for this set of girls as they will get to run at Happy Valley where the history of Fijian rugby speaks for itself.
Fuli who has been part of the Fijian 7s team believes it is totally a different feeling playing at the Hong Kong Stadium.
He said while the girls will cherish the moment, they need to do a job this weekend and their task starts from the first pool match against Ireland.
Fuli said “For the first time, it’s an opportunity for us to play and also experience the atmosphere and the history that Hong Kong is about and how we have been successful for so many years.
The performance and record of the Fijian 7s team will truly inspire the girls over the three-day tournament.”
Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s take on Ireland 5.04pm tomorrow before taking on Brazil at 9.04pm and battle against Australia the following day at 1.55pm.
