Nagasau ready to lead the team in Japan
Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s captain Rusila Nagasau believes they are on track and ready for the Kitakyushu tournament in Japan which begins on Saturday.
Nagasau said one of the reasons leaving for Japan early was to settle down well ahead of the tough two days of tournaments.
“The training here in Japan is going well. We also visited the Rugby World Cup venue and we were blessed to have a run at the ground. The coaches have managed to work on a few of the weak areas and we are ready for the tournament in the weekend.”
The tough forward said she is blessed to lead such a talented pack of girls who have been putting all their effort in lifting the Fijiana 7s this season.
“Leading the team is not an easy task but I have a few of experienced players like Ana Marai Roqica and others helping me out.”
“The biggest challenge for me was to get back to the 7s fitness after playing 15’s rugby for a quite a long time. I’m trying my best to set a good example for the girls in the team.”
Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side sits 10th on the HSBC World Rugby Womens series standings with nine points while New Zealand leads the table with 60 points, followed by USA and then Canada and Australia.
The Saiasi-Fuli-coached side won the Trophy Challenge in Sydney beating England 15-12 in February.
Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side is pooled with USA, Ireland and England for the Kitakyushu 7s in Japan.
They begin its Pool C encounter against Ireland at 1.30pm FJT on Saturday, then faces USA at 4.36pm FJT before battling it out against England at 6.58pm in its final pool match.
