Nadroga determined to end the season on high.
Nadroga rugby retained the 2019 Farebrother Trophy after beating Suva 24-13 in front of a packed home crowd at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
It was an electrifying start seeing both teams playing according to their game plan with solid runs and excellent ball control.
The Skipper champions Suva got on board first with a penalty from Enele Malele in the sixth minute and later a try from winger Misaele Petero. Suva led 8-nil.
Nadroga first three points came in after Amenoni Nasilasila slotted in a penalty kick in the 18th minute.
Nadroga continued to use their forward pack to penetrate through Suva’s defense and got their first try In the 26th minute through captain Rupeni Nasiga. Both teams were locked 8-all at the breather.
Petero second try extended Suva’s lead to 13-8, before Nasilasila narrowed the gap for the Stallions, slotting in a penalty.
Going into the 61st minutes Rusiate Nasove of Nadroga found a gap to slip through for yet another try extending their lead to 21 with a successful conversion from Nasilasila.
Suva was under pressure and were forced to make mistakes. Nadroga capitalize on it and Nasilasila was once again perfect from his boots.
The Stallions managed to overcome a determined Suva side edging them 24-13.
Nadroga skipper Rupeni Nasiga praised his players for getting the work done which they’ve been aiming for in the past few weeks.
“I thank the players and also the management for all the work they’ve put in for this game, as you know Suva beat us twice this year and we couldn’t afford to lose this prestigious Trophy.”
Nadroga will now face Bainimarama Shield holders Lautoka this week.
