Mosese Naura’s Unexpected Rugby Journey
Mosese Naura’s journey to the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s was unexpected.
He began in the Skipper Cup competition, where he first realized his talent and love for rugby.
Naura only played rugby league once in secondary school before returning to farming. He never believed he had the talent for rugby. But when he joined Nadi Rugby and took part in the Skipper Cup, everything changed.
“I wasn’t really a rugby player. I only played league once in secondary school and then went to the village to farm. I didn’t think I had it in me to play rugby until 2022 when I joined Nadi Rugby,” Naura said.
What started as fun soon became serious. Competing in the tough Skipper Cup competition, he later switched to 7s before being picked by Head Coach Osea Kolinisau.
Now, as a national team member, the Navosa native is adjusting to the higher level of competition. He admits that national team training is much harder than club rugby.
“Playing in the national team is very fast and tough. Club rugby is nothing compared to this. Everything is professional, and all the players are working hard,” he said.
Naura is grateful for this opportunity and is focused on learning from the senior players.
He said he wanted to use everything he learnt in training and apply it in matches.
“Now that I am in the team, I want to follow what I have learnt in camp with Coach Oz. Whatever I learn in training, I want to show it on the field.”
Despite his quick rise in rugby, Naura stays humble and thanks his family for their constant support.
“I want to thank Mum, Dad, and my sisters for always supporting me financially and through prayers.”
Naura and the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side is pooled with Spain, Uruguay and USA.
