MATCH REPORT: Skipper Provincial Cup Nadroga V Namosi

The Nadroga rugby team maintained their unbeaten run in the second round of the Skipper Provincial Cup competition with a last minute try which was successfully converted as they edged Namosi 29-28 at Thomson Park in Navua.

A match worthy of a final as both teams scored one try after the other as they levelled 15-all at the halftime break.

Nadroga made the first move to lead the hosts 10-3 in the first quarter of the game but Namosi scored two quick tries to took a narrow lead of 15-10.

Just before the first 40 minutes would finish the Stallions levelled the score to 15 all.

It was a catch up game for Nadroga until the last minute when Josaia Cokaibusa divied under the post to score the last minute try. Paula Bete converted it successful as the Stallions sealed the match.

Nadroga captain Manueli Ratuniyarawa said they just had to play it simple.

“I told the boys we needed to play to our best against Namosi and every time we did that, we had opportunities to score tries,” said Ratuniyarawa.

“The Namosi forward pack was heavy so we had to play on their half and apply pressure to them and I thank the boys for their effort.

“And I thank the Lord Almighty for his blessings and giving us the strength to enjoy ourselves in the rugby field.

Meanwhile the Namosi development team defeated Nadroga 28-23 despite.

In the Under 19 divisions, Nadroga made a comeback from last weekend’s loss to Suva to beat Namosi 15-7.
