Lilian Amazon Trio Earn National Call-ups After Stellar FSC Under 20 Performance

Lilian Amazon has emerged as a standout team in the Fiji Sports Council Under 20 competition, which has been held over the past four weekends. Their impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with three of their key players earning call-ups to national teams.

Kelerayani Luvu has been selected for the FIJI Airways Fijiana Development side, set to compete at the upcoming Oceania 7s tournament on December 7th and 8th. Meanwhile, two other players, Varanisese and Mere Vocevoce, have earned spots in the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team, which will represent Fiji at the Dubai 7s tournament.

Team patron Neville Koop expressed pride in the achievements of the players and highlighted the team’s ongoing rebuilding phase. He also mentioned that four additional Lilian Amazon players have been called up for the national High Performance Unit, giving them a great chance of earning their place in the senior national squad soon.

“We’re really proud of the progress our girls have made. Although we have a few players sidelined due to injuries or school commitments, it’s a huge achievement for three of our players to make it into the national 7s teams. This is a testament to the hard work of our coaches, support staff, and most importantly, the girls who’ve put in the time and effort,” Koop shared.

Koop also praised the talent within the Lilian Amazon ranks, noting that many of the players are still young, aged between 16 and 18 years old. He also took the opportunity to commend the performances of other teams that have excelled throughout the four legs of the FSC Under 20 7s tournament.

As the competition heads into its final leg this week at Bidesi and Buckhurst Park in Suva, all eyes will be on the rising stars of the 7s scene.
