Killer mud-run session for Fijiana XV’s
It was a tough one week of training camp for the Fijiana 15’s who have begun their preparation for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand next year.
Adding more flavor, Coach Senirusi Seruvakula took his extended squad to train in the mud-pool at the Naval Base in Togalevu on Thursday.
Fijiana became the first team outside the naval base to use the mudpool after the six months of COVID-19 restrictions.
According to Seruvakula the idea was simple, as the players were in many aspects such as fitness and team work.
“The main focus was the bonding for the girls in the team, I was really proud of them on what they have achieved today,” said Seruvakula.
“They gave it all and completed all the obstacles which the Navy instructors directed them to conduct.
This training exercise will be part of the team’s preparation to the Womens Rugby World Cup in 2022.
The exercise started off with a warm up and straight into the mud drains where the girls were divided into groups and followed every command given by the instructors.
It tested their team work, perseverance and enthusiasm, where the girls had to crawl in the mud and pull each other to reach the finish line.
However, as everyone thought it was the end of the line, the instructors commanded on one final test that was to work as a team and run the famous Kolikoca hill opposite the Togalevu Naval base.
“When we are getting closer to the World Cup and when the overseas players join the team we are going to take on this team bonding exercise more,” said Seruvakula.
