Looking at the first Cup quarterfinal, Tabadamu meets Army while Wardens face Heart International Barbarians in the second quarter. Raiwasa Taveuni then meets Ratu Filise in the third Cup quarterfinal.
Tabadamu and Heart International Barbarians match was one of the best game of the day after the Jerry Tuwai led Barbarians put up a strong feat to book a sport in the quarters.
The side was laced with experienced players such as Vatemo Ravovou, Semi Kunatani, Kaminieli Rasaku and Manueli Maisamoa. They lost their first match against the Stallions but came strong in the other two matches. Jerry Tuwai’s experience was key in their final match as he scored two tries to help his side beat a strong Tabadamu team.
Fire also had a roller-coaster ride in their pool games. They created upset by beating Police White in the first pool match and then, unfortunately, lost to a fit Raiwasa Taveuni in their second pool match.
They managed to secure the much-needed win against Nawaka 17-12 in their final pool match but the result between Police White and Raiwasa Taveuni, which was their group final pool match was to determine their fate. At one stage Police White was looking to have booked a spot in the Cup quarterfinal, but then Raiwasa Taveuni scored a try in the dying minute to win the match. This meant Raiwasa Taveuni finished on top while Fire was second and Police White relegated to the Bowl play-offs.
Wardens and Army plus Police Blue and Ratu Filise had an easy ride in their pool securing two wins each before they played each other.
Meanwhile, Heart International Barbarians player Jerry Tuwai thanked his players for giving in such a huge commitment and remaining in the main play-offs.
“All credit goes to the set of players I have in my team. They played their hearts out in the final match plus we also managed to improve on the mistakes we made in the first two matches” said Tuwai.
Police Blue captain Keponi Paul said “We are taking each game at a time. Playing Fire will be tough but then we need to go back to the drawing board and see the areas we need to improve before coming for the final day of competition.”
