Guangdong provides valuable lift with new buses.
Fiji Rugby today received two new passenger transport coaches from China’s Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Qian Bo in a ceremony officiated by Fiji Rugby President and Prime Minister Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama.
The gift is a donation from the Guangdong Province of the People’s Republic of China.
PM Bainimarama expressed his gratitude to people of the Guangdong Province highlighting that this contribution to rugby will lighten an enormous burden on the game with over $500k spent annually on transportation for training, competition and travel of Fiji Rugby teams and programmes.
“On behalf of Fiji Rugby Union, I’m grateful to accept the two new buses provided by the people of China’s Guangdong Province. I want to extend our thanks to both parties, the People’s Republic of China for this gift and particularly the Province of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government” he said.
The buses will be used to cater for the travelling of our national teams and Fiji Rugby staff around the country in terms of training, tour, tournaments or other union obligations.”
Bainimarama said that the generosity shown by the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government has proven that “even as the world hits pause, sports diplomacy remains a powerful tool for connecting our people across borders.”
Also in attendance as the 60 seater and 30 seater passenger transport coaches were presented at Albert Park was Mobil Fiji CEO Mr Adi Jaya Tamara who, as the Official and Exclusive Fuel partner or Fiji Rugby, will also play a vital role in supporting and reducing the transport costs for the Union moving forward.
