FRU CEO Opens World Rugby Match Official Level 3 Course
Fiji Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer, Radrodro Tabualevu opened the World Rugby Match Official Level 3 course at FASANOC this morning.
The three day course is being attended by Match Officials from the Asian Rugby Football Unions representing Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Japan and the Oceania Rugby Unions representing Fiji and Tonga.
Tabualevu said that it was the FRU’s pleasure to host the Oceania leg of the course as the focus would be on the Match Officials who would in turn assist the players and Fiji Rugby Elite teams reduce the error rate on the field.
“We want to weed out those errors that are costing us games and we want to continue to teach the correct techniques and police them.”
“There are niggling and persistent mistakes that we continue to commit on the field and by hosting and participating in these courses, we can prevent or reduce these mistakes.”
“We welcome you and hope you have a very fruitful session.”
One of the notable Fiji participants for the course is female referee Koini Vuli who is the first Fiji female Match Official to attend the Level 3 course. Vuli officiated at the 2012 Pacific games in Noumea and was the referee for the men’s quarter finals in the 7s competition.
World Rugby Trainer, Talemo Waqa thanked the FRU for hosting the course and mentioned that this is the first time for the cross border course involving ARFU and Oceania Rugby Unions match officials.
The Match Official Level Course is from 12 to 14 March following that the ARFU leg will be held in August.
