From the Boxing Ring and Back to Rugby with eyes on national tour
Fiji Airways Fijiana 7’s extended squad member Sera Bolatini has made a name for herself in the Fiji’s women’s rugby scene.
The Qoma in Levuka lass began her rugby journey, representing Ovalau in the Royal Tea Ranadi Competition a year ago and playing for Namosi in this year’s ANZ Marama Competition.
She was part of the extended Fijiana Drua squad. Bolatini also made her mark on the rugby 7s circuit as a member of the Marist Women’s Rugby Club.
“I come from a rugby family so rugby has always been a part of me growing up, I have played in a number of clubs and provincial teams, trying to catch the eye of national selectors,” said Bolatini.
Earlier this year Bolatini took an unexpected detour from the rugby pitch to explore a different sport—boxing.
“While local rugby was on off-season, I decided to join boxing. I used to just watch it and got interested.
“There was a boxing club called Boxing Brave that I joined for a whort while. I started joining their competitions and liked it very much,” she said.
Her dedication in boxing didn’t go unnoticed, and soon she was selected to represent Fiji on three international boxing tours.
Despite her successful stint in boxing, Bolatini’s said her passion for rugby remained.
“Now I’m back with my sights set on a new goal which is joining the Fijiana 7s squad. This comeback is what I have been waiting for and I am working hard to give it my all,” said Bolatini.
Bolatini is hoping to get the nod for the upcoming Dubai 7s on July 30th.
