Free Entry to 2016 World Rugby Pacific Challenge
In light of the recent events pertaining to the destruction and recovery from TC Winston, the Fiji Rugby Union in partnership with World Rugby and with the support of the Fiji Sports Council has today announced that the entry fee to the 2016 World Rugby Pacific Challenge will be waived and that all entry to all the scheduled games for the 2016 WRPC from the 8th to the 21st will be Free of Charge.
FRU CEO, Mr John O’Connor confirmed this today, saying that after discussions between World Rugby and the Fiji Sports Council, the FRU, made the decision not to charge for the tickets, to allow everyone to come to the ANZ stadium and support their favourite teams without the burden of paying.
“We have taken into consideration that the country is still recovering and that free access to the 2016 World Rugby Pacific Challenge will be a way of getting everyone’s minds off the devastation.”
“We also want to encourage everyone to come down to the ANZ Stadium and support the Telecom Fiji Warriors and their favourite teams. The tournament is a family event, whereby families, including the children can come and watch, without a second thought on ticket costs.”
“Further, this will also be an opportunity for volunteers assisting in the rehabilitation works from other countries who are based in the Central division to come down and enjoy some exciting and entertaining rugby.”
“This will encourage the players to also play their best, knowing that their whole family is sitting in the stands cheering for them.”
“I would like to thank World Rugby and the Fiji Sports Council for their assistance in allowing us to do this.”
The 2016 World Rugby Pacific Challenge kicks off tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium, with four countries competing.
Further, there will be delayed coverage of the matches, which will be shown on Fiji 1, a few hours after the last match to allow our fans in the West and the North access to keep up to date with the tournament.
Meanwhile, Mr O’Connor congratulated the Vodafone Fiji 7s team for successfully defending the Las Vegas title, but more importantly for doing the country and all Fijians proud despite the difficulties we have all gone through.
