Former Fijian 7s stars assist Northland

Former Fiji Airways Fijian 7s players Isake Katonibau and Apisai Domolailai have joined the Northland rugby team to help the side qualify for tier one competition {Skipper Cup} next year.

Northland lost 15-14 in its opening match against Nasinu in the round one of the Vodafone Vanua Championship last weekend.

Northland forward Paula Rokotuloma said they are fortunate to have the services of the two national reps.

He said “We are thankful to former Fijian 7s player Isake Katonibau who is helping the coaching team this season.

We also have the Olympic Games gold medalist Apisai Domolailai and we are looking forward to playing alongside him.”

He added the players have given full commitment towards training and are ready to face Rewa in its first home match.

Rokotuloma said “We have brushed up on our defensive plus attacking game and we are looking forward to the match tomorrow.”

He added “It being a home game will help boost our confidence and we are going for nothing less than a win.”

The Northland players have requested the fans to come in numbers and help them get their first win in the Vodafone Vanua Championship.

“A call to all the Northland fans to come and support our team as we are trying to move up to the major competition once again” he said.

Meanwhile, In the lone Vodafone Vanua Championship match today Malolo faces Serua 3pm at Churchill Park in Lautoka while in other Western Vanua clash tomorrow Ba meets Navosa at Ba Market Ground.

In the Central Vanua matches, Northern Bulls meets Nasinu at Nauluwai School Ground and Northland plays Rewa at Gatward Park in Korovou.

In the Eastern Vanua, Tavua faces Ra at Garvey Park while Nanukuloa plays Vatukoula at Ra Sports Ground.

Up in the Northern Vanua, Bua faces Cakaudrove at Lekutu School Grounds and Macuata hosts Ovalau at Subrail Park.

All matches begin at 3pm.
