Flying Fijians vs Italy match called-off
Fiji Rugby has this morning confirmed that as announced by the organisers of the Autumn Nations Cup (Six Nation), the Flying Fijians match against Italy scheduled for Saturday 21st November 2020, has now been cancelled.
Fiji Rugby Chief Executive John O’Connor clarified that as per COVID 19 protocols, tests conducted have returned 29 positive COVID cases (management and players) within the camp and based on the recommendation of the tournament medical board, our medical Team and expert advice, the players will remain in quarantine isolation and undergo further test as such the match cannot take place and has been cancelled .”
“He also confirmed that after contact tracing, the our medical Team and FFR medical Team have been able to narrow down the origin of the virus but since the team has been training and living in their own bubble, it has spread to other members of the team and management.
“Our medical team with the support of the FFR, and Tournament medical team are continuing to closely monitor the Team since no one has any symptoms and all are healthy and doing well. No one has required any form of medical treatment.
Our priority now together with the tournament organisers is the safety and well-being of the players and management and the team will remain in strict isolation and monitoring prior to further testing being conducted. Fiji Rugby and the Organisers are committed in taking all necessary action and steps to ensure that all players are tested negative prior to any further consideration.
Our focus now is on the health and well-being of our Team and making sure they can all return negative test.
CEO, also confirmed that in accordance with the tournament terms of participation, the points for these cancelled matches will be awarded to France and Italy.
