Flying Fijians V France match called-off
Fiji Rugby has this morning confirmed that as announced by the organisers of the Autumn Nations Cup (Six Nation), the Flying Fijian match against France scheduled for Sunday 15 November 2020, has now been cancelled.
Fiji Rugby Chief Executive John O’Connor clarified that as per COVID 19 protocols, tests conducted in preparation for the match against France, had last night, returned 4 new positive results and based on the recommendation of the tournament medical board and expert advice on the high risk of the virus spreading to other players and to ensure player safety, wellbeing and welfare, the match has been cancelled.”
“Based on expert medical advice, effective immediately from last night, all players and team management have been placed under quarantine and are now isolated in their individual rooms.
“Our medical team with the support of the FFR medical team have started contact tracing and are monitoring the players. Further tests are planned for Monday and Wednesday, prior to the Italy match,” he said.
“None of the players who have tested positive, have any symptoms and all are healthy and doing well.
“Morale in camp is high but there is frustration since the team had prepared well and was looking forward to the match, to kick off their campaign,” said O’Connor.
“Everyone, however, understands that the life, safety, and welfare of everyone involved is always paramount and the priority,” he added.
“With COVID 19, the NEW NORMAL the pandemic has thrust upon us life is full of uncertainties and challenges which we have to deal with,” he said.
The Fiji Rugby CEO also apologised to Fiji Rugby fans all over the World who were eagerly awaiting the match, and thanked everyone for their continued prayers and support for the team.
O’Connor would also like to thank the Six Nations and FFR for their continuous support towards Fiji’s participation in the ANC.
