Fijiana XVs prepares for Asia Pacific Championship
The Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs are looking forward to the battle against Hong Kong in the Asia Pacific Womens Championship which will be held at Churchill Park on Friday.
The Fijiana XVs last played their Asian rivals in 2016 where they went down 45-7 in Hong Kong.
Fijiana XVs head Coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata expects a tough match on Friday but said the girls have been impressive during the training runs so far.
“The girls came from different teams so it took a bit of time to try and gel them together plus getting a structure for them to follow through-out the session.”
“The progress from the girls during training has been good, still a lot of things to learn for the girls, some of them are new to what we want to do but we’re progressing.”
Last week Wednesday the Fijiana XVs had a scrimmage session with Suva Women’s team which really tested their playing structure.
“I’m glad that we had a scrimmage session against Suva, they exposed us in a few areas which we will need to work on such as our breakdown, clearing the ball from the breakdown and I think that was a good hit out before we play Hong Kong in our first game.”
“Through the scrimmaging we’re able to see a few areas that we needed to work on for our first game.”
“We will focus on our structure which we want to execute on the field and we’ve got a forward pack that we’ll need to utilize so we can get clean balls for the backs to work on” he said.
Fijiana will take on Hong Kong 4pm {FJT} in their first match at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Friday.
On Tuesday, Hong Kong faces Samoa at the same venue and in the final match of the Aisa Pacific Championship, the Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs will take on Samoa at 4pm {FJT} in Lautoka Saturday week.
