Fijiana XVs focus on Samoa ahead of round 2 clash
Fiji Airways Fijiana XV’s is expected to bounce back after going down 53-nil to New Zealand Development in their opening Rugby World Cup qualifier match at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
With a few new players on their debut for our Fijiana XVs, Captain Sereima Leweniqila said they were up against a strong opponents and the team was really tested in the match.
Leweniqila emphasized that they didn’t executed well as New Zealand build the momentum early which put them under pressure in the game.
The Black Ferns Development side took advantage of the mistakes made by the Fijian team in-order to extend the lead in the second spell.
Leweniqila explained they will review and work on the weak areas and try to improve on it in their next game.
Going back after this game we will need to improve on our set pieces, defensive lines and most importantly pull up our discipline on field.”
Meanwhile, Australia’s versus Tonga was called off due to a suspected measles case with one of the Tonga Women’s XV player.
The match between Australia and Tonga was considered a draw with both teams being awarded 2 points each.
Samoa hammered PNG 65-12 which puts them on a favorable position ahead of their clash against Fijiana XVs.
Round to kicks off on Friday with New Zealand Development facing Australia at 1.30pm and then Fiji Airways Fijiana meets Samoa – 4pm at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
