Fiji Women’s 7s
The Telecom Fijiana aim to better they standings as they head into the first round of the 2016/2016 HSBC WSWS in Dubai.
The Iliesa Tanivula coached side finished eighth in the past two seasons and only made it as far as the Rio Olympics quarter finals.
Tanivula says that with the retention of the core team from the Olympics their aim now is to become a regular contender for Cup honors.
“This is something the team and I have discussed from the beginning of this season.”
“One is the change in attitude on and off the field, which the girls are determined to change. This is one of the little things that contributes to our training and game which is our attitude. Once we get that right, nothing can stop us from achieving our goals.”
“Our aim this year to is make the top four and I know the girls can do it.”
The Telecom Fijiana face a tough pool and start their campaign against France, followed by New Zealand and Ireland in Pool B.
“It doesn’t get any easier: New Zealand, the former series champion, and like Australia they’ve set the standard for the last few years and nothing has changed for us – I look at them leading the pack,” he said.
“Looking at France, they played well in the last series and beat us a couple of times and of course we’ve got Ireland who as ever they’re improving.
“We’ve just got to take each game as it comes and enjoy the occasion.”
FRU CEO, John O’Connor, wished the team well for the Dubai 7s.
“By reaching the quarter finals of the Olympics, you showed everyone what you are capable of doing. But it is time to forget about the Olympics and look toward the new season. There is nothing impossible once you set your mind to it. I would therefore like to wish you all the best for the Dubai 7s, make us proud.”
