Fiji U20 Team Shifts Focus to Super Rugby U20
Fresh off their triumph in the Oceania U20 Challenge, the Fiji U20 team is gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to compete in the Super Rugby U20.
Playing under the banner of the Fijian Drua U20, the team is eager to showcase their talents in this prestigious competition, which kicks off in Taupo, New Zealand, on Saturday.
Coach Apisai Sailada said he had confidence in his squad’s readiness for the upcoming tournament.
“We are preparing very well for the Super Rugby U20. We have had to manage some niggling injuries, but aside from that, we are fully prepared for this week.”
Sailada said it was important to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the game and the high ball retention rates of opposing teams, especially for teams in New Zealand.
“In Super Rugby, we will be facing fast-paced teams with strong ball retention. Therefore, we are placing a strong emphasis on our set pieces, as Super Rugby teams are well-structured in this aspect,” he added.
Sailada added he hopes to build on the momentum from their recent success in the Oceania U20 Challenge.
The Super Rugby U20 tournament presents a valuable opportunity for the Fiji U20 players to gain valuable experience before the Junior World Cup in South Africa later this year.
Fiji will face the Hurricanes U20 on Saturday at 2:05pm (FJT) at Owen Delany Park in Taupō.
