Fiji Rugby Union scooped 4 awards at the Fiji Sports Awards
Fiji Rugby Union received 4 awards at the 2020 Fiji Sports Awards held at the Vodafone Arena, Suva.
The awards included the team of the year awarded to Fijian 7s, best sportsmen of the year which went to Jerry Tuwai, best organisation of the year and coach of the year which was awarded to Gareth Barber.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was at the awards night and he congratulated the winners for all the hard work put in in making 2019 a banner year for Fijian athletes.
“Congratulations to the winners at our 2019 Fiji Sports Awards night, Moana Wind, Jerry Tuwai, Ben Rova, Gareth Baber, Trisa Cheer, Patricia Vosayaco, Rebeca Johns, Daniel Shaw, our men’s Fiji 7s Team, and all of the other athletes, coaches and staff who helped make 2019 another banner year for Fijian athletics.”
PM Bainimarama explained that Fiji sports is successful because of the fundamental principles of unity and teamwork from our sporting bodies and athletes.
“And because we’ve stuck by those same principles as a Government, anyone, from anywhere, can find success for themselves in the Fiji of today. So long as you work hard, prove your merit, and commit to teamwork, there’s a place for every hard-working Fijian on our nation’s winning roster.”
Fiji Airways Fiji Sevens coach Gareth Baber won the Fiji Water coach of the year award.
Fiji Rugby Union scooped the Paradise Beverages Sports Organisation of the year award.
Jerry Tuwai took out the main award of the night, the Fiji Tattslotto Sportsman of the year award.
Samoa Pacific Games gold medalist Moana Wind won the sportswoman of the year award.
The Administrator of the Year was given to Ben Rova of Fiji Swimming.
Technical Official of the year award was given to Trisa Cheer while Patricia Vosayaco of Fiji Swimming won the Sports Volunteer of the year award.
