Fiji Rugby Congratulates FSSRU on Another Successful Vodafone Deans and Weetbix Raluve Season

As we reflected on the 85th year of the prestigious Vodafone Deans competition over the weekend, Fiji Rugby extends heartfelt congratulations to the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) for yet another successful season. This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone involved in organizing this remarkable event, which has become an integral part of our rugby legacy.

This year marked a special celebration with the exciting introduction of the Weet-Bix Raluve competition in its third year, which has opened doors for young girls to explore opportunities in rugby. This initiative not only empowers budding female athletes but also enhances the overall inclusivity of the sport, fostering a community where everyone can thrive.

“We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering commitment of the teachers, whose sacrifices and dedication play a pivotal role in molding young rugby players,” said Mr Rovereto Nayacalevu, Fiji Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer. “Through the sport, they instill vital values such as Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline, and Respect—values that will guide these young athletes both on and off the field.”

Mr Nayacalevu shared: “A special thank you goes to the President of the FSSRU and the entire executive team for their exceptional leadership in organizing yet another grand event. Your efforts ensure that the Deans competition continues to thrive and evolve.”

“Fiji Rugby also expresses deep gratitude to Vodafone Fiji for their steadfast support of the Deans competition. Their contributions have played a crucial role in developing some of the best rugby talent in our nation, many of whom have gone on to achieve greatness on the international stage. A shining example is Ratu Meli Derenalagi, who captained the 2016 Queen Victoria School team to victory as U18 Champions that year and has since made us proud on the world stage with a Gold medal at the Rio Olympic Games. Currently, he is the Captain of the Fijian Drua and a regular with the FIJI Water Flying Fijians.”

Mr Nayacalevu also commends CJ Patel for their branding of Weet-Bix in the Raluve competition, which has significantly boosted equity in sports participation for girls. He said: “This partnership exemplifies the positive impact that collaboration can have in promoting inclusivity and growth within our sporting community.”
