Fiji referees selected for U20 Trophy in Portugal
High Performance referee panelist Mr Tevita Rokovereni and Mr Amini Tadrau have been appointed by World Rugby to officiate at the 2015 Word Rugby Under 20 Trophy, to be held in Portugal in May.
This is the eighth year of the tournament but the first appearance for the Vodafone Fiji Under 20 team after their relegation last season.
Both Mr Tadrau and Mr Rokovereni have just completed their Match Officiating Level-3 Course with World Rugby but now need to be further assessed before they are given the final certification.
This will be the first international appointment for Mr Tadrau’s while Mr Rokovereni has had previous international exposure in particular with FORU. He officiated at the 2011 Pacific games that was held in New Caledonia.
World Rugby did the selection of officials for the U20 world tournament. Fiji’s National Referee’s Manager Patrick Gock said this is a pathway for referees and a great opportunity for the locals to be recognized.
“This will make our local referees work harder knowing that opportunities are out there for them,” Mr Gock said.
Both Mr Tadrau and Mr Rokovereni have officiated in the Skipper Cup and part of the Farebrother Challenge.
“The work does not end here and the hard yards put in by them has been worth it now that they have been recognized for international exposure,” Mr Gock added.
Mr Rokovereni who just turned 26 last month hails from Tailevu and Mr Tadrau is from Lau.
