Fiji Barbarians 7s team to Munich 7s
The Fiji Rugby Union after receiving an invitation from the hosts of the Oktoberfest 7s in Germany with all expenses paid has confirmed that the Fiji 7s Barbarian team will participate in the tournament.
The Oktoberfest 7s will take place on the 29th and 30th of September 2017 at the famous Olympic Stadium in Munch. Teams such as Australia, South Africa and England will be competing in the two day tournament.
Vodafone Fiji 7s Coach, Gareth Baber says that the event which is organised in partnership between the German Rugby Board (DRV) and World Rugby will be an opportunity to test out the new blood in the Vodafone Fiji 7s squad and gauge their performance in the build up towards the 2017-2018 HSBC World 7s Series which kicks off in Dubai in December.
“It is good to be able to send a Fiji squad to such a competitive tournament. Our aim at this point in our preparations for the new season, is to expose these players to International level competition which enables us to find out more about them. With such a tough season ahead we need to ensure that we grow the strength and depth of the group and provide as much competition for places as possible, a key element to successful future performances.”
FRU CEO, Mr John O’Connor highlighted that our participation will allow the Coach to see how the players adapt to international level to allow him to select the best team for the World Rugby 7s Series.
“The World Rugby 7s Series is the ultimate objective as we prepare for the Commonwealth Games and World Rugby 7s World Cup.”
The team departs our shores on Sunday.
