Fiji Airways Men’s Team to Sydney and Hamilton 7s
Fiji Airways Men’s 7s Coach, Gareth Baber has named the team to the second leg of the 2017/2018 HSBC World 7s Series in Sydney and Hamilton.
The side sees four changes to the team that played in Dubai and South Africa last year with Apisai Domolailai, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Vatemo Ravouvou and John Stewart missing out on selection. John Stewart and Vatemo had been stood down for disciplinary issues in Dubai.
The tournament will kick off on 26 January at the iconic grounds of the Allianz Stadium where 16 men’s teams will battle it out to be crowned the champions.
In the men’s 16-team tournament, Fiji arrives at the third round of the World Series in third place of the standings with 28 points and face New Zealand, Samoa and Russia in Pool A.
Baber believes he has selected a very strong team and is confident the team will do well in Sydney and Hamilton. “We have named a very strong Team which we hope will be very competitive and will do well in the two tournaments. We had stepped up the intensity of our training after the last next two legs and will treat all our matches as the final”.
The men’s knock outs begin at 10.28am next Sunday and will wrap up at 9.48pm on later that evening.
Fiji play their first game against Samoa at 8.28pm next Friday, then Russia in their second game at 5.09pm next Saturday before taking on New Zealand at 8.42pm next Saturday.
Following the Sydney 7s tournament, the team will proceed to New Zealand for the Hamilton 7s.
